Covid-19 Update July 9th 2020

We hope this message finds all our patients safe and well. Further to the First Ministerís announcement today, dental practices in Scotland can open as of Monday 13th July for routine care. However, this care continues to be limited to treatment that does not involve the generation of an aerosol.

The practice would like to take this opportunity to give you an update on how this will be implemented as the service we can provide remains limited.

  • Patients who have had issues during the period of closure will be contacted as soon as the practice is permitted to carry out the treatment you require.
  • Patients who have had appointments cancelled will be contacted by the practice in due course to rearrange these as guidelines permit.
  • The practice is limited to running two surgeries at present so the number of patients we can see daily remains very limited.

Patients should be aware that how we work as a practice has significantly changed in order to keep staff and patients safe.

  • If you have a genuine dental emergency, please phone the practice and we will endeavour to see you if we can
  • Patients who cannot be treated at the practice will continue to be referred to the Urgent Dental Care Centres as required.
  • Only attend the practice if instructed to do so, the front door will remain locked at all times
  • Patients will be required to complete a COVID Screening Questionnaire
  • Patients will need to update their medical history form so please ensure you have a full list of any current medications
  • Patients will be asked to sanitise their hands-on arrival and will be provided with personal protective equipment (PPE) to wear
  • Staff will all be wearing PPE so please donít be alarmed, itís still us!
  • Patients should note the patient toilet will be out of service as a cross infection precaution as per guidance

The practice is required to have a system in place to help track and trace who has been in the practice. This helps the NHS if a patient or a member of staff presents with COVID symptoms or tests positive.

To keep everyone safe we are in the process of setting up a text message system that will help with COVID screening and Track and Trace. We would be most grateful if you could ensure the practice has an up to date mobile phone number and, if possible, email address.

During these challenging times we continue to be truly grateful for the support of our patientsí and we look forward to welcoming you as soon as we can

Stay safe.
Bill, Gary and all the team at The South Street Dental Practice.

Orthodontic Advice

Due to the current situation with COVID 19 routine orthodontic appointments have been temporarily suspended. Once we are able to resume normal practise we will be in touch to arrange an appointment.

Advice for patients during this time is as follows:-

1. If a bracket comes off and is not causing you any pain then accept the breakage for the current time
2. If a bracket comes off which stops you from wearing one of your elastic bands then please stop wearing the elastic band on the other side (wearing only one band when asked to wear two can result in an even result).
3. If something breaks and is causing you pain or a wire is digging in and causing pain use wax to help relieve pain (wax from a Babybel cheese can be used if you run out of orthodontic wax).
4. If you lose or break your retainer, unfortunately we wonít be able to provide you with a new at the moment. Not having your brace adjusted will obviously increase treatment time, but providing you continue with good tooth brushing, healthy eating habits and have no/few breakages you should come to little harm.
